Why Australia is My Home: Stability, Opportunity, and a Nation of Care
Hearing about winter last week, I decided to put my snow tyres will soon have summer approaching. Need I say more?
The Unbeatable Healthcare System
I currently have Stage 4 prostate cancer and am on a medicine that in another country would cost 40,000 AUD per month. In Australia, it only costs me 31.80 AUD a month.
The value of universal healthcare in Australia simply cannot be overstated. This is a reason that so many seek out life in this country, regardless of their financial or health status.
A Relatively Stable Political System
The political system in Australia is relatively stable, with a focus on care and support for each other. This sense of community and collective responsibility is something that sets Australia apart from many other countries.
No Riots, Strict Gun Control
Australia's strict gun control laws and relatively low level of civil unrest further enhance its appeal. The country does not experience the same level of riots or protests that sadly plague many other nations.
A Millionaire in Australia: More Than Physical Dollars
I am an average Australian, not a millionaire in terms of physical cash in the bank. However, my assets and those of my peers are considerable. We have traveled the world, visiting 34 countries, and are considered millionaires by any Australia, becoming a millionaire is not a mere pound of flesh for your hard work; it is a testament to your dedication and to the world's major credit agencies, Australia ranks second in the world behind Switzerland in terms of the ratio of millionaires per capita, despite its relatively small population of 25 million.
A Nation of Opportunity
Australia is a stable country where the opportunity exists for anyone to become a millionaire if they are prepared to work at it. More than anywhere else on Earth, Australian society provides the tools for the average person to be successful. The point here is not that only the individual limits success, but that Australia's high level of general affluence carries its disadvantaged along. They are provided with basic housing and essentials, including free healthcare and transport, and a fortnightly, livable social security allowance.
A Nation of Love and Stability
Despite the challenges and imperfections, Australians are resilient and proud of their country. They love it with all their hearts and are one of the world's most stable democracies. As Peter Allen so aptly put in his song, “No matter how wide I travel or how far I roam, I still Call Australia Home.”
That is why I would not want to live anywhere other than Australia right now. Cheers.
