Nick's Unusual Gift - A Little Brown Bird
One of the most memorable stories involves Nick, a cat known for his intelligence and unusual behaviors. One day, Nick urgently rushed into Vince's room, his late roommate, and brought him to my room to fetch me. Then, both of us were taken to the living room. Near the open-screened front door, a small brown bird was huddled inside, its eyes squeezed shut, and shaking so hard it couldn't stand up.
Initially, Nick gently patted the bird, still making sure we were watching. Without claws, he bumped the bird’s bottom, thinking maybe the bird had a hidden talent. After a few attempts, Nick looked up at us with a disappointed expression, as if apologizing for not getting the bird to perform a trick. We gave him a few treats, and I picked up the bird, taking it outside onto the front patio. As soon as the bird caught sight of the clear sky, it took off, much to our relief!
Crystal's Clever Cat - A Cooked Mouse
Crystal, my cat, brought home an unusual gift one day that highlighted her clever and cook-loving nature. Clever old Spike, as she is fondly called, managed to fill the mouse's breast perfectly. It was a sight to behold and left all of us in shock. When you think of cats bringing home prey, this was certainly not your everyday encounter.
Two Female Cats - A Field Mouse on the Coffee Table
On a more somber note, my two female cats once brought a field mouse into the house. This gift, though unexpected, was a bit more distressing. I was in the middle of selling the house at the time, and it's likely that many of the potential buyers encountered an unwanted housewarming gift in the family room. It certainly added an extra layer of excitement to viewing the property!
