What Are Some Unique Survival Items?

Discovering obscure yet indispensable survival items can significantly enhance your preparedness for any wilderness situation. These items often come from military-grade sources or specialized manufacturers and are rarely found in mainstream survival stores. In this article, we will explore some of these unique survival items, their importance, and where you can find them.

High-Quality Military-Grade Survival Tools

High-quality military-grade survival tools are typically of exceptional quality, designed for rigorous use in all conditions. These items are used by government organizations due to their critical importance. Examples include:

Spiri's Favorites in Unique Survival Items

Here are some of the most useful and unique survival items according to Spiri:

1. Titanium Triangle

One of my favorites is a small titanium triangle with 3 holes punched out at the corners. It can be used to create a tripod for a fire, hang a pot, and start cooking.

2. Ferro Rod

The ferro rod is another must-have in emergency situations. Drawing down on it creates a shower of sparks, making it easy to start a fire.

3. Bladed Weapons

I always carry bladed weapons when I go into the woods, but I never leave without my Morakniv Garberg and Cold Steel Bushman. The Morakniv Garberg is the first full-tang knife made by Morakniv and has proven to be exceptionally versatile for bushcraft. The Cold Steel Bushman is a single piece of forged steel with a hollow handle, making it an invaluable tool for spear-making and other survival tasks.

4. Water Filtration

Addressing water needs is crucial in the wilderness. I always carry a LifeStraw, which is a life-saving tool for filtration. I also bring an old military canteen and several iodine tabs for purification.

5. Lighting

A reliable light source is essential. I always carry a mini flashlight with 650 lumens on my keychain. While the better models can be expensive, they are worth every penny for their durability and brightness.

6. Time and Navigation

If you're ever lost in the wilderness, having a reliable timepiece is crucial. My Tissot analog watch not only keeps accurate time but also acts as a compass.

7. Miscellaneous Tools

Other essential tools include a bottle of liquor for eye wash, a tick removal tool, and garbage bags, which can double as a poncho or liner for a lean-to. A small spool of paracord is a versatile item, and a small ziplock bag of matches and dryer lint for GREAT tinder

The list of unique survival items is extensive, but these are just a few items that have proven to be indispensable in my personal arsenal.
