Transforming Our 24-Year-Old Drawing Room: A Fusion of Traditional and Modern
I, along with my mother, have embarked on this exciting new journey of renovating my entire house. Although it is a collective effort, the design decisions are solely in my hands. Once it is finished, I cannot wait to share the look of my living room with all of you!
Blending Traditional and Modern Themes
Each piece of furniture and decoration in our drawing room has been carefully chosen either by my husband or, equally important, together as a family. Our objective was to combine traditional and modern elements, rather than leaning entirely towards the modern aesthetic.
At the centre of our room stands a nakashidaar sofa which is made of mango wood, beautifully carved and enhanced with intricate detailing. It complements the light purple mauve walls, a perfect blend that adds a touch of elegance.
We have also included a side table and center table made from the same material, further emphasizing the traditional craftsmanship. The curtains are intricately embroidered in a delicate tissue with subtle lining, adding a layer of luxury and sophistication to the room. These elements are an outstanding representation of our love for traditional aesthetics.
Modern Decorative Pieces and Finishing Touches
The TV unit's design was sourced from a collection of decorative pieces we purchased online. This modern addition injects a contemporary touch to the traditional setting, creating a harmonious blend. All the decorative pieces blend well with the overall look, creating a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
We have also brought a cozy touch to the room by incorporating some green elements. This not only adds a pleasant visual contrast but also brings a sense of tranquility and warmth, making the space more welcoming and relaxing.
It is important to note that we reside in a 4bhk apartment in Jaipur, a city famous for its rich cultural heritage and architectural beauty. The renovation process was extensive and took us almost a year, from initial planning to the completion of every last detail. This level of attention to detail and care in every aspect truly reflects the love and effort invested in our home.
Renovating the Home
Eight months ago, we moved out of our retirement home in Devanahalli and returned to our old apartment in South Bangalore. We immediately got to work on renovating our old apartment. This process included a multitude of upgrades to bring our home back to its former glory. Some of the major changes included:
A new sofa to replace the old one Replacement of curtains to match the new decor New fans and clocks to update the ambiance A brand new center table and side tableIn addition to the living room, we also renovated our bathrooms and kitchen with fresh wall and floor tiles, and up-to-date sanitary fittings. The old woodwork, which was deteriorating in several areas, was meticulously replaced with new woodwork, ensuring structural stability and longevity.
It is important to highlight that despite the extensive renovations, all credits for the thoughtful blending of traditional and modern elements go to my wife. She played a pivotal role in making our home not only a beautiful space but also a reflection of our individual tastes and values. As for me, I did nothing more than lend my support and share my vision for the transformation of our living space.
Our new drawing room, within this 24-year-old apartment, looks stunning. I would love to hear what you think about this theme. Please share your thoughts and if you have any similar experiences or advice to offer, I am all ears!
