Life at NIT-Arunachal Pradesh: An Insight into Girls' Hostels and Mess Food

As a 2nd-year student hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Allahabad, my experience at NIT-Arunachal Pradesh (NIT AP) has been a stark contrast to my expectations. Compared to other NITs like MNNIT Allahabad, NIT AP lacks many of the amenities that create a college-like atmosphere. However, it does offer a high school-like environment, which has its pros and cons.

College Facilities: The Reality of NIT AP

The condition of NIT AP is rather poor. After wandering through various other institutions like IIIT Allahabad, MNNIT Allahabad, universities such as NIT Delhi and Ajay Kumar Garg Engg. College Ghaziabad, visiting NIT AP was a shock. There is no campus canteen, mall, or playground. It lacks the basic facilities that are often taken for granted in other colleges. The college does have one redeeming quality, though: it is quite safe for girls, especially compared to other states.

Girls' Hostels: A Comfortable Stay

There are two girls' hostels in NIT AP. One is specifically for 2nd-year students, while the second housing 1st, 3rd, and 4th-year students, along with 1st and M.S. girls. The rooms are spacious, and the accommodation is quite comfortable. For the former hostel, each apartment houses 5 rooms, each accommodating 2 girls. Some rooms have a maximum capacity of 3. In the latter hostel, the 3 floors are divided into separate rooms, each holding 2 girls.

The Mess Experience: A Mixed Bag

The mess food at NIT AP is a mixed bag. While it is clean and hygienic, it leaves something to be desired in terms of taste. On some days, the food can be quite bland and unappetizing. However, there are some positive days when the taste really shines, like Thursday and Sunday, when there is paneer and chicken respectively. Despite the quality of the food, the cost of mess fees is often higher than other colleges, which can be a concern for many students.

Overall Life at NIT AP

Life at NIT AP is generally manageable. While there might be some initial adjustment needed, most students find their way to fit in eventually. The college offers some good faculty who are loyal and supportive. It is a good place to be if you are looking for a place where everyone is focused on their education and personal growth. The weather is excellent and always cool, making it a pleasant place to study and live.

Should you be considering NIT AP for your academic options, it's worth giving it a shot. While it may not be perfect, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. You won't regret your decision if you are okay with a simpler college life and a focus on academic excellence.
